Yesterday, the massive protest of Tibetans and supporters filled the streets of Dharamshala. Today stands testimony to history as China readies itself for the grandeur and the global acceptance that it so direly craves, Tibetans and Tibet supporters around the world are ever more ready to condemn China for its atrocious human rights records and all the lies China has perpetuated to cover its violent and brutal crackdown on Tibetan protesters. More Tibetans and supporters took the streets today in Dharamshala to join the global celebration of protests.

“We urge every freedom loving citizens of the world to take a stand for Tibet and pressure the Chinese government from releasing thousands of political prisoners detained since March Uprising,” said Tenzin Choeying, National Director of students for a Free Tibet – India. “Beijing will try to use the Olympics to divert world’s attention from its atrocities in Tibet to how deceloped China is. Let us all remind Beijing that we are not ignorant.”

Tibetans in Dharamshala will cover their mouths with black band to signify the lack of freedom and human rights for Tibetans in Tibet exactly when China launches its festive and joyous opening ceremony of Beijing 2008 Olympics. International friends of Tibet, representing 20 different countries will also voice their support and concern for the daily human rights abuses Tibetans in Tibet undergo on a daily basis.

“Tonight, China will try to present the world how progessed they are with a grand opening, but in Tibet few thousand Tibetans will be in prison for merely practicing their freedom of expression”, said Chime Youngdrung, President of National Democratic Party of Tibet. “With protests around the world and in Beijing, the festival of peaceful activism has begun.”

The Tibetan People’s Uprising Movement strives to recreate with which the first national uprising movement proceeded on March 10, 1959 and to put an end to the illegal occupation of Tibet by the Chinese government by carrying out non-violent direct action.
